The Chess Mind

This is a blog for chess fans by a chess fan, one who loves the beauty of the game and wants to share it with those who are like-minded.

The news for now is essentially the same, but the principals always find new ways to say it.

Here's Kramnik's response to Topalov's "no thanks, you're not in my class" reunification rebuff. Meanwhile, the New York Times has interviewed Topalov, less about reunification and more about his thoughts on Kasparov and his place in chess over the past decade or so. (It also has a funny picture of Topalov posing with his trophy as if it were an extremely large and expensive toothpick.)

Back to title news: FIDE's latest version of the 2005-2007 World Championship cycle is available here.

And that's the news for now...more later as events warrant.

Alex Herrera:
Dylan Loeb McClain, the interviewer of Topalov, was an opponent of mine in Correspondence (USCC Web 1) Just goes to show the interesting people one comes accross in Postal.

Thanks for the link. It seems he is backing down from his claim of being out of Kramnik's league. Maybe his manager talked some dollars and cents to him. His manager also talked of a possible fischer random match with Bobby and a hydra match.

Topalov is lookign for the money now. He knows his title expires in 2 years. He will want to collect as much as possible in that time. Whether it is agaisnt Fischer in Fischer random, Hydra, or Kramnik. However, the Kramnik match will have to be the last one. Why? If Kramnik beats him that could blow the sponsorship for the other two matches.
