A new ChessVideos show: Head-spinning complications in the King's Gambit Declined
Now that the USCL Game of the Year countdown is complete, it's back to more free-wheeling topics with my weekly ChessVideos.tv shows. In my latest presentation, I offer a recent miniature - not because the game is so magnificent, but because one position early on is incredibly rich. If you start watching, and then stop the recording after White's 7th move and then start analyzing on your own (and for a long time!), I believe you will benefit greatly from the exercise. But whether you put a lot of time into it or a little, or just watch for entertainment, I think you'll be fascinated by the ideas present in that position. Here, once more, is the link: the show is free, requires no special software, and can be watched on-demand. Enjoy!

Great! I play the KG and have only had it declined a handful of times. I certainly hope it is a white win, but either way I will enjoy the excercise.

Thanks.

I remember a Monokroussos video which included some opening analysis of a Dunst (or possibly Center Counter) variation 1.Nc3 d5 2.e4 d4 3.Nce2 e5 4.Nf3 Bd6 5.Ng3 h5 involving further advances of the h-pawn. Can someone remind me which video it was?

What a great game and exercise. It is amazing the things a 1200 will miss with a little pocket set. I started with the move played and had a hard time getting an edge for white. I tried 2 or 3 other moves, but it seemed like the game continuation was the best defense for black. Now, I have to go back and review some more and then listen to the game again. Then, when someone declines my KG in a similar manner, I will be ready to take the full point!

Thanks for the lesson and entertainment. I see where you get your moniker.

Nice analysis. But you did forget to mention the stronger h5 as a reply to f5.

To have forgotten it, I'd have had to think about it in the first place! White's fine after 7.Nh3, but it is an improvement. It seemed to me that if Black isn't playing ...Nf2, then ...Ng4 is more or less pointless, but perhaps that judgment was hasty.
